Therapy and Counseling with a Faith Based Focus

The increased need for counseling that is spiritually based is growing. This training looks to give mental health professionals options for providing treatment to clients who prefer a more Faith based treatment method. Many consumers value their Christian Faith and express coping methods that help them overcome stressors. Although counseling is available in many church organizations, not everyone is attached to a local church body, but still prefer assistance by those who are Christian and mental health professionals. Also, many mental health professionals are exploring new ways to incorporate their spirituality in treatment because of their faith in its healing power. 

Mental Health Disorders

  • Understanding basics of common Mental Health disorders.
  • Recognize symptoms of Disorders
  • Examine effects mental health disorders
  • Explore ways to best serve those diagnosed
  • Learn best resources available to treat

With an array of mental health disorders and diagnosis in the DSM-5, this training seeks to highlight those disorders that are commonly known as the most diagnosed in the mental health profession. It compares and addresses some of the similarities while taking note of the differences in the new additions to the DSM-5.

Sexual Abuse Victims

 

  • Examine basics in understanding sexual violence and Sexual Abuse Victims
  • Explore how victims are affected and ways to help them in treatment.
  • Identify signs and symptoms
  • Identify interventions and treatment modalities in working with victims
  • Explore Risk factors
  • Explore and identify coping tools to help victims

This training addresses areas that participants need to be aware of when working with victims of sexual abuse. Participants will be provided with treatment techniques to help clients identify coping skills and reduce the negative feelings associated with sexual trauma. The training also addresses needs of those providing treatment who may themselves been the victim of abuse in the past. To avoid being triggered while treating others, the training will also provide information and resources for self-care and transference.

Conflict Resolution

  • Define conflict
  • Learn methods to resolve problems through effective communication
  • Identify multiple positive alternatives and possible solutions
  • Understand reasons behind conflict
  • Implement strategies and create safe and comfortable meeting environments.

Many people find themselves in conflicts among family, peers, coworkers and colleagues throughout their lifetime. However, not everyone is clear of the best way to resolve conflicts. Most of us create our own method to resolve problems tht don’t prove favorable to everyone involved. Helping clients learn positive ways to resolve conflict, and implementing the steps, is the goal of this training.

Grief and Loss

 

  • Identify normal and abnormal responses to childhood bereavement.
  • Understand how personal responses to loss impact their responses to bereaved children and adolescent.
  • Identify how to support youth according to numerical and developmental age.
  • Understand factors that affect grief and mourning to include coping.
  • Participants will demonstrate understanding through a brief quiz

Having a thorough understanding of how children handle and manage grief, will help caretakers and adults provide the proper care and treatment. This training will equip participants with information and resources needed help those grieving with the healing process resulting from loss. This training will also identify other areas that may cause children to grieve that may not necessarily be due to the death of a loved one.

De-Escalation

Defined – Decrease in intensity, magnitude

  • Learn preventative methods to prepare for a crisis situation
  • Understand and develop methods to remain in control during a crisis to promote safety
  • Develop Techniques to support clients after a crisis

Many crisis situations get elevated due to inability to de-escalate a situation. A person’s inability does not come from a failure to try, instead it comes from lack of knowledge of how to handle elevated situations. This training teaches people the skills needed to de-escalate even the most intense situations using only words and correct body language.

Ethics

Defined – a choice between two options, neither of which resolves the situation in ethically acceptable fashion.

  • Define ethical dilemmas when collaborating with other professionals.
  • Examine agency standards and requirements in clinical, medical, legal and school systems.
  • Review key ethical principles.
  • Explore the difference in ethical and practice dilemmas.
  • Review the NASW code of ethics

Social workers are found working in many situations and agencies that base job performance and obligations of the agency’s policies and procedures. Licensed Social Workers are held by the NASW Code of Ethics and the states that issue their license to practice. Problems arise when the two collide causing an ethical dilemma. This training seeks to identify some of the differences as well as guide social workers to the NASW Code of Ethics. This training also looks to help social workers maintain positive working relationships among other professionals within different agencies.
